The Effectiveness of Health Counseling Using Leaflet and Video Media on Teenagers’ Knowledge about The Risks of Early Marriage, North Jakarta

Background: UNICEF data (2021) shows that marriage of underage girls is most common in Niger, reaching 76% who were married before the age of 18. Chad and the Central African Republic rank second at 61%. Indonesia is ranked second in terms of early marriage in ASEAN after Cambodia and 8th in the world for cases of child marriage. The impact of early marriage, when a teenage girl becomes pregnant, can have a significant impact on education, the safety of the mother due to childbirth, and employment opportunities that affect her life and income in the future. Children who are born are also at risk of death in newborns, LBW, and stunting. Meanwhile, another problem experienced by young married couples is the vulnerability to the practice of domestic violence resulting in divorce.
Purpose: Determine the effectiveness of health education using leaflets and videos on teenagers’ knowledge about the risks of early marriage.
Methods: Quasi-experimental research type with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample in this study were all teenagers who lived in the RT. 12 RW. 03 Kel. Lagoa North Jakarta has as many as 55 people. The sampling technique is total sampling.
Conclusion: The majority of adolescents were knowledgeable before being given health education (78.2%) and afterward had good knowledge (58.2%). There is an effect of providing health education using leaflets and videos on the level of knowledge of adolescents with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.005). There is an influence of health education using leaflets and videos on the level of knowledge of teenagers. It is hoped that health workers will optimize programs to increase teenagers' knowledge about the risks of early marriage.
