Abstract

Background: Indonesia is the second country with the highest number of early marriages. Early marriage is a marriage carried out by men and women who are still under the productive age, i.e. less than 25 years old for men, less than 20 years old for women. The causes of early marriage can be seen from various sides, including knowledge, education and the parents' economy and children's struggles.

Research Objectives: This study aims to determine the factors related to parents marrying off their children at an early age in the Kel. Cengkong, Kec. Purwasari Year 2025.

Research Methods: The research design is an analytic study with a cross sectional approach. The sample technique used was total sampling with a total sample of 34 people. Data analysis in this study was univariate and bivariate analysis using the SPSS program.

Research Results: From the univariate analysis, the results obtained were 5 (14.7%) respondents married their children at an early age, 23 (67.6%) respondents had low knowledge, 27 (79.4%) respondents had higher education, 28 (82.4%) respondents have an economy according to the minimum wage and 24 (70.6%) respondents have children with good association. From the results of statistical tests with the chi square test, it was found that there was a relationship between knowledge (pvalue=0.029), education (pvalue=0.003), parents' economics (pvalue=0.029) and children's association (pvalue=0.019) with parents marrying off their children at the age of early.

Conclusions and Suggestions: There is a relationship between knowledge, education, the economy of parents and the association of children with parents marrying off their children at an early age. It is hoped that the Cengkong sub-district, especially health workers in the Cengkong sub-district, will conduct counseling and inform regulations regarding the legal age of marriage for girls and boys and provide information related to the impact of early marriage on children and efforts that can be made to prevent early marriage.
